Meiji has started selling a new product “Cacao Beauté Jelly” on July 29 that focuses on cacao as a beauty appealing ingredient on the EC platform service “Makuake”. Limited sales until September 18th.
The company reconsiders cacao, known as a raw material for chocolate, as a “fruit” and aims to create new value through the fusion of food and beauty.
Hiroko Watanabe of the Cacao Development Department of the Global Cacao Business Division says, “Because we have been dealing with cacao for nearly 100 years, we want to increase the economic value of cacao through new proposals that go beyond chocolate and give it back to the production area.”
The core of the product is two types of cacao-derived ingredients independently developed by Meiji. The company succeeded in using “cacao ceramide”, a moisturizing ingredient, as the world’s first ingredient from cacao nibs. “Cacao flavanol” is a type of polyphenol as a reddish extract derived from Vietnamese cacao, and is characterized by a sweet, sour, and fruity flavor.
This product is 20 kcal and zero fat per 1 piece, and does not use artificial sweeteners. Contains 1-day supply of vitamin C, making it easy to incorporate into daily life such as in the morning or after bathing.
The background of the product development is the inner care trend starting in Korea and the growing awareness of beauty through social media. In response to the need to “eat delicious beauty ingredients”, we respond from the perspective unique to the “cacao company”. In the future, the company plans to promote the development and application expansion of new ingredients, including its own “cacao vinegar”.
“Cacao Beauté Jelly” is the first product of the “meiji CACAO BEauty Project”, an inter-company project that brings together volunteers from sales, product development, and marketing departments. Regular price of 3,600 yen including tax for a pack of 14 pieces.
