“Chinese-made Tabletop Aji Nori” – Preventing Decline in Nori Consumption Amid Domestic Price Hikes, Nico-Nico Nori’s New Fall Product

Nico-Nico Nori launched the “Chinese-made Tabletop Aji Nori, 12-cut, 80 sheets” (reference base price: 550 yen) on September 1. Following the March release of “Yaki Nori, 7 sheets,” this is positioned as household product using Chinese nori. By utilizing inexpensive yet umami taste Chinese nori, the company aims to prevent consumers from turning away from nori due to the rising price of domestic nori.

In addition, for the fall seasonal products, Nico-Nico Nori also releases “Tamago Furikake with 30 Ingredients” and “Vegetable Furikake with 30 Ingredients” (both 50g, reference price: 220 yen). These are renewals of staple products that have been sold for 27 years. Generously incorporating the premium seasoned nori brand “Kiwami,” (the ultimate) the products have been finished with a strong nori presence befitting a nori manufacturer.

On its official e-commerce site, the company also launched nori snacks, “Oyatsu Nori Sweet & Salty Flavor” and “Oyatsu Nori Butter & Soy Sauce Flavor” (each 5g), on July 17. Last July, the company had released a limited-time “Mala Flavor” nori snack at selected Seven-Eleven stores in Tokyo and Kanagawa, followed in April this year sales of the two items at nationwide Seven-Eleven stores. Due to positive feedback, they have now been rolled out on the official online store as well.

At the new product launch event, President Kiyomasa Shiraha commented, “They are low in calories and can be eaten without guilt.”
