Fujicco, the only company in Japan that produces domestic nata de coco, provided the offcuts generated in production as material for a wedding dress.
Nata de coco is a type of cellulose nanofiber that has attracted attention as a substitute for plastic. It has also been used in non-food items such as cosmetics and notebooks. The company uses it in its jelly product “Fruit Therapy.”
Recently, the material was provided for the work “Wedding Dress” by Yoshifumi Tara, an assistant professor at Kyushu University Graduate School, and was exhibited at an art event in Tokyo. The company says, “Effective use of by-products in food manufacturing is an important initiative toward building a circular society. We want to continue developing innovative uses.”
