House Foods Corporation launched “Kodomo Curry Powder” on August 11. It is a curry powder made entirely from 100% plant-based ingredients, designed for children aged one and older. The product can be used in various dishes, such as homemade curry, side dishes, and soups. It comes in a can with a measuring spoon included, making it easy to adjust the amount used.
“Kodomo Curry Powder” is the company’s first pure curry powder developed specifically for toddlers. It contains no added salt and uses only plant-based ingredients, with a focus on creating a mild and gentle flavor. The name and package design were crafted to clearly indicate that the product is intended for children. The product is sold in 35 g cans, with a suggested retail price of 348 yen (excluding tax).
Chili peppers and black pepper are not used. Instead, the powder blends onion, paprika, coriander, and cinnamon, layering different types of mild sweetness to produce a smooth flavor that is easy for children to enjoy while still satisfying even with light seasoning. By using heat-processed turmeric and adjusting the amount of coriander, the bitterness is reduced, allowing the product to remain tasty even after cooling.
Heat-processed cumin enhances the natural sweetness of rice. In addition, the combination of spices and blending techniques helps mask the unfavorable qualities in vegetables, such as grassy odor, bitterness, or lack of sweetness, making the product versatile and suitable for recipes beyond curry. On the brand’s website, recommended recipes are introduced according to children’s ages.
Alongside the launch of “Kodomo Curry Powder,” House Foods Corporation has renewed its “Seasoned Curry Powder Vermont Curry Flavor” (56 g, 45 g in pouch) and “Seasoned Curry Powder Java Curry Flavor” (56 g, 45 g in pouch). The renewal emphasizes the strengths of their curry roux brands while enhancing taste, with packaging redesigned to be easier to understand.
