Japan’s halal food exports in 2025 increased by 3.67%, and a growing number of companies are entering the business. On the 16th, an information session for the media and businesses was held in a conference room at Tokyo Big Sight on halal exhibitions planned in Japan and overseas this year. The event was organized by Hikari and supported by the Halal Japan Association.
The briefing covered the current state of the halal market and halal industry, as well as outlines of “MEGA HALAL BANGKOK” to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in July (July 15–17; hereafter Mega Halal Bangkok) and “Halal Inbound & Outbound Expo Japan 2026,” to be held May 19–20 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho Building.
At the session, Peter Cheung of ComAsia (Hong Kong), the organizer of Mega Halal Bangkok, reported that the inaugural Mega Halal Bangkok held last year had more than 200 exhibiting companies and 7,542 visiting buyers. This time, he said, “We expect more than 400 exhibitors and over 15,000 visiting buyers. Indonesia is the largest market for halal food in Southeast Asia, but Thailand is a hub for ASEAN countries. Its Muslim population is increasing, and the halal market is expanding. Demand is growing for Japanese products, which are known for their high quality,” calling on attending businesses to participate.
According to Cheung, Thailand’s domestic halal market is growing by 7.78%. In addition to food and beverages, the exhibition will showcase and facilitate business negotiations for halal products in a broad range of fields, including wellness and health products, beauty, and fashion.
The domestic exhibition in May will be organized by Hikari. Companies that have received certification from halal certification bodies in Japan—including those in food and ingredients, beverages, cosmetics, restaurants, and travel agencies—are scheduled to exhibit. Admission is free. It will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both May 19 and 20.
