“Sapporo Ichiban” Becomes a Feast – Instant Noodles Get Their Own Retort Toppings, Just Heat and Pour

Sanyo Foods, maker of the “Sapporo Ichiban” brand, is launching a new line of retort-packaged toppings designed exclusively for instant noodles.

Branded under the slogan “Let’s Top It! Sapporo Ichiban,” the series includes two products: “Gomoku Ankake Noodle Topping” and “Spicy Tantan Noodle Topping.” According to the company, “Just heat for one minute in the microwave and pour—it turns your usual ‘Sapporo Ichiban’ into a full-fledged meal.”

This marks the company’s first time releasing retort-packaged toppings as standalone products. They will go on sale starting September 29 across seven prefectures in the Tokai and Hokuriku regions.

The core target demographic is instant noodle consumers who value time efficiency but still want to enjoy a touch of indulgence.

The “Gomoku Ankake Noodle Topping” pairs best with “Sapporo Ichiban Shio Ramen.” It features the umami of oyster sauce and the aroma of sesame oil, with five ingredients: Chinese cabbage, pork, carrot, bamboo shoot, and wood ear mushroom.

The “Spicy Tantan Noodle Topping” goes perfectly with “Sapporo Ichiban Miso Ramen.” It combines spicy and savory flavors with ground sesame and chili oil, accented by the fragrance of Sichuan pepper, and includes minced meat, bamboo shoots, and wood ear mushrooms.

Both products come in 160g packs and are priced at 330 yen (excluding tax). Cooking methods are simple: microwave at 500W for 1 minute or 600W for 50 seconds, or heat in boiling water for about 3 minutes. The company notes that nationwide expansion will be considered “based on post-launch results.”

Despite rising prices and increasing focus on cost performance, the new series offers consumers the satisfaction of restaurant-quality flavor at home with minimal effort.
