According to a survey by the Japan Soymilk Association, production of soymilk products in 2025 (January–December) reached a record high of 444,552 kiloliters.
By category, “Unadjusted Soymilk” recorded the highest growth rate and a record-high production volume of 156,927 kiloliters (114.5%). “Adjusted Soymilk” reached 204,319 kiloliters (106.9%), “Soymilk Drinks with Fruit Juice” 17,472 kiloliters (104.1%), and “Flavored Soymilk Drinks (Others)” such as coffee and tea 50,378 kiloliters (100.7%), with all categories increasing over the previous year. The “Others” category, mainly soymilk for commercial use, also posted a high growth rate, reaching 15,456 kiloliters (114.0%).
The soymilk market reached a previous record high of 430,000 kiloliters in 2020, but subsequently slumped for a time due to factors such as consumers refraining from purchases in response to price increases. However, starting in 2024, the Soymilk Association and manufacturers worked together to carry out awareness-raising activities. In a short period, soymilk production rebounded sharply, leading to expansion.
The Japan Soymilk Association has actively promoted education and awareness, focusing on “Healthy Soy Latte Day” on June 12 and “Soymilk Day” on October 12, as well as a Soymilk Month (October), in order to communicate the characteristics and benefits of soymilk to consumers.
In addition, it has continually carried out food education activities and appealed to consumers about the importance of protein intake, while actively disseminating information about soymilk components—such as the ease of consuming soy protein and isoflavones. “As a result, understanding of soymilk’s components has deepened, and among health-conscious consumers, more people are choosing soymilk not just as a substitute for other drinks or foods, but as something they actively prefer, leading to increased demand,” the association believes.
