On July 1, Asahi Foods announced that its Australian subsidiary, TFF Australia Holdings, had acquired all shares in Melbourne-based Clamms Seafood Pty Ltd (“Clamms”) effective the same day. At a press conference held that day, Executive Vice President Shin Takeuchi expressed the company’s intention to develop operations in Australia’s major cities and expand its seafood business in the country.
Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Melbourne, Clamms processes, manufactures, and sells seafood products. Its sales for the fiscal year ended June 2025 were ¥8.5 billion. Asahi Foods made The Fish Factory Australia (“TFFA”) of Brisbane, Australia, a subsidiary in July 2024. With the addition of Clamms, a company in the same business, sales from its seafood business in Australia will reach approximately ¥14.5 billion.
Executive Vice President Takeuchi emphasized: “In addition to Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city, and Brisbane, its third-largest, we next want to expand into Sydney, the largest city; Adelaide, the fourth-largest; and Perth, the fifth-largest. We want to operate in these cities and expand our seafood business in Australia. It is a country with a meat-eating culture, but fish consumption is also gradually increasing, and we intend to capture that market.”
The company aims to achieve ¥100 billion in seafood-business sales by 2030. Currently, domestic sales total approximately ¥40 billion and overseas sales approximately ¥20 billion. Overseas sales include ¥4 billion in South Korea and ¥2 billion in Vietnam, in addition to Australia. Going forward, the company plans to strengthen imports and exports in cooperation with its domestic seafood group companies in order to “enhance competitiveness,” according to Executive Vice President Takeuchi.
