Aiming to build a sustainable logistics network, Showa Sangyo and Nestlé Japan launched a combined “round-trip” (loop) transportation scheme for flour and coffee in October.
Under this scheme, the outbound leg involves transporting flour products from Showa Sangyo’s Kashima Plant (Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture) to its Shizuoka Sales Office. On the return leg, coffee products are transported from the nearby Nestlé Japan Shimada Plant to Kanto warehouse located in Chiba Prefecture. By effectively utilizing the empty legs of both companies’ shipments, they intend to improve logistical efficiency. With three runs per week, the companies expect to reduce the number of trucks used on these specific routes by approximately 50%.
The two companies stated they will continue to contribute to the “construction of a sustainable logistics network” by considering the expansion of target areas for round-trip transportation and exploring logistics collaboration across a wider range of fields.
